Reflexology
History of Reflexology
In China, reflexology was known as “zone therapy” and was practiced for over 3000 years! In the 1930’s Eunice Ingham further developed Zone Therapy into what is now known as Reflexology. She observed that congestion or tension in any part of the foot is mirrored in the corresponding part of the body.
How Does Reflexology Work?
It is based on the theory that all areas of the body correspond with and can be mapped onto areas of the feet. While the feet are the main focus of treatment in reflexology, the hands or ears are also sometimes treated.
Reflexology is a technique that applies gentle pressure by finger or thumb walking, to your feet or hands to bring about a state of relaxation and help the body’s own healing process. Reflexology works in a similar way to acupressure and acupuncture. There are certain points on the feet and hands that correspond to the organs and glands in the body. So by pressing and massaging these points it can stimulate energy pathways in the body. The client lays down while having this treatment, which helps to induce a deep feeling of relaxation.
Benefits: Reflexology can help with many ailments but is not limited to Relaxation, insomnia, back pain, removing toxins, headaches, stress management, anxiety, depression, circulation, fertility, pain relief, immunity, enhanced well being, improves digestion, constipation, improved mood.
